I became the Oxford Grant Administrator/Writer for the Town of Oxford on June 6, 2006. Prior to this position, I was a teacher for 41 years. I retired in 2001. I believe I am most fortunate to have had a career in education, which I loved, and now have started a new career that I also love. It is an honor to serve the Town of Oxford’s wonderful residents. Each grant dollar I can put “in the bank” helps with our taxes and brings services and equipment to the Town that would otherwise have to be paid by the taxpayers. Many people have contributed to the success of the Oxford grant writing; the First Selectmen, Town Commissioners and Oxford citizens.
It is a pleasure to announce that the Town of Oxford has received the Small Cities Community Block Development Grant FY 2008 for the renovations of Crestview Ridge, Oxford Housing Authority’s residence for seniors. The grant is for $700,000.00 which will fund the following:
• A new roof
• All new windows and surrounding insulation
• Propane supplemental heat
• Weather stripping of interior and exterior doors
• New digital thermostats.
• Updated alarm system
• Automatic door openers for handicap building
• Relocation of intercom
In addition, the Town of Oxford has received a Completion Letter for the new Senior Center. The new Senior Center was also a Small Cities Block Development Grant. That grant was for $750,000 and has been successfully administered to completion. These grants are administered through the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development and funding comes from the Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD).
Another area that has received substantial funding is Oxford’s Open-Space and Trails. The Town has received $100,000.00 for trail enhancement in its two open-spaces: Agnes Schiavi Tetlak Park and Rockhouse Hill Sanctuary. An additional $6,000 was received from the America the Beautiful Grant for the purchase of trees for the new Senior Center. These grants were awarded through the Department of Environmental Protection Trails Program. An additional grant has been written for FY2009 for an additional $75,000 for continued work in Tetlak Park.
A STEAP grant was awarded the Town for the new turning lane for Great Hill Road and Route 67 for $90,000 and $10,000 for a new back stop and fence at Posypanko Park requested by the Oxford Babe Ruth League. A $500,000 ST$EAP grant has been submitted for FY 2009 for the completion of road construction on Phase III of Christian Street from Robinsons.
These are just a few of those grants that have been written and administered during this past FY 2008. In total, nearly $7,000,000 in grants have been written, awarded, administered and/or pending in the FY 2008, of that approximately 1,000,000 is pending and the rest has been awarded.
