Oxford Lions Club

The Oxford Lions Club is a civic organization that helps people in need.

OXFORD LIONS CLUB

"The mission statement of the Lion's Club is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace, promote good citizenship and international understanding."

It is active in fund-raising projects that benefit eye research, diabetes detection and sight-related problems.  It collects donated eyeglasses for recycling to the needy. The organization also awards scholarships to graduating seniors from Oxford and volunteerism awards for eighth graders at commencement and sponsors an International Peace Poster prize.  The club has made various contributions to the town including development of Kirk’s Pond at the Town Hall, annual holiday lighting of the Town Hall and construction of the pavilion and improvements at Jackson’s Cove Park.  It has served refreshments at many town events. Among the club’s fund-raisers are car and cash raffles.

New members are selected upon the recommendation of existing members and after being screened by the membership committee.  To be eligible candidates must demonstrate a willingness to be involved in the club’s projects and to attend meetings.

The club meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at Rose’s Family Restaurant at 35 Old State Road.  During July and August it usually meets only once per month.
