Dear Boards, Commissions, Committees and Departments of Oxford:
Re: Long Range Planning Committee.
This letter is intended to provide an overview of the Long Range Planning
Committee’s (LRPC) role and mission, and we are pleased to furnish you with the
following information regarding the LRPC and their objectives.
The 9-member Committee consists of:
- Richard Burke – Chairman
- Rose McKinnon – Vice-Chairman
- Alan Hertzmark
- Blake Denham
- Wayne Johnson
- Sam Peterson
- Jim Hliva
- Fred D'Amico
- Karsten Olsen
The selectmen, Augie Palmer & Rick O'Doy will be represented on panel as
consulting resources. The LRPC mission is to create a Long Range Plan which
assures a beautiful, safe, cost effective, family oriented environment that also
addresses commercial, industrial and residential growth which embraces our
town’s rural character.
The LRPC main objective is to have vision of Oxford’s future condition, needs,
and opportunities, all of which guide the decision making process. This vision
will lead to the development of a well-balanced comprehensive plan that assists
in the projection of needs and wants of the town 5 to 10 years into the future.
Another LRPC function is to research & propose strategies for addressing the
future impacts of economic and residential growth, infrastructure and education
issues. Along with town Departments and operational needs and Boards,
Commissions and Committee requirements.
Through a process of cooperation, coordination and citizen involvement, the LRPC
goal is to bring all affected parties to the table in order to determine their
unique requirements and associated cost to the town and its citizens, while
providing a forum to address the overall growth & development. In addition, we
seek to find an answer to the questions “Where are we going and how are we going
to get there”? Will it be by choice and not by chance?
An important LRPC task is to provide and develop a comprehensive tactical plan
and financial model including impact analysis, by obtaining in detail and making
yearly recommendations for implementation within 10-year duration. The
long-range plan is a strategic plan and different from the plan of conservation
and development.
There is no political agenda associated with the committee’s efforts. The LRPC
does not wish to interfere or overlap with other Boards, Commissions, Committees
or Departmental functions within the town. The intention is to establish a
working partnership among all groups for the betterment and the future planning
of Oxford.
We look forward to meeting and working with you soon.
Respectfully:
